Mother's Day Khutba

Testing Tripod blog. Heard a nice khutba about duties to parents.

1. Hadith: A man asked the RA (SAW) who is most worthy of the man's companionship. The RA (SAW) said, your mother, your mother, your mother, your father, and then those next in kin.

2. RA (SAW) said that jannat is at the foot of the mother. The meaning of this is that one can attain jannat based on their good deeds to their mother, and parents in general.

3. Quran: Allah (SWT) has in 11 places in the Qur'an mentioned duty, respect to parents. In one, Allah (SWT) prescribes a prayer for us, "O Allah, have mercy on my parents even as they cherished me when I was little."

4. Kindness to parents is an opportunity for a servant of Allah to gain entry by Allah's mercy into paradise. We should take advantage of this opportunity because any opportunity given to us by Allah (SWT) is a mercy from Allah (SWT).

5. Hadith: For every time one looks with kindness and love towards one's parents, Allah (SWT) writes the reward of an accepted Hajj in his record. A man asked the RA (SAW) that if he did this one thousand times, then would he receive the reward of 1000 accepted hajj? The RA (SAW) said yes.

6. One should be kind to his or her parents even though they may not be kind in return.

7. The mother faces 3 periods of difficultly in raising her child. The first is that of pregnancy and the pains associated with it. The second is during childbirth, a pain that only a woman can know, and last is that of the two year period of weaning, during which the child is helpless and depends completely on the mother for feeding and other natural necessities.
